rarely does graff/counter art get a rise out of me, but the hijacking of 10 electric billboards in LA has me

smiling.  i have an electric gene simmons billboard out of my window right now, which screams of everything

wrong in the world today.  skullphone guy, if you read this….we should talk.

this is an original idea… like an 08 QVC for hipsters…..entertainment that sells you stuff. they are masking

the ads in some funny content. i hope they are going to up that website tho…..it’s pretty integral to pulling this

off. the performance issues are tough….but with content like this, i’ll put up with it….if you all need some

front end design / performance work…and it looks like you do, write me.

I’m on the 4th issue of my subscription to monocle magazine and i must give it propers. expanding on the

definition and understanding of the term design, mr. brulé and his smart team have shifted focus from visual

porn(as was wallpaper*) to worldly mindset. each issue is so chock full of interesting global affairs (ranging

from political situations to design fairs), it is tough to finish in a month….smartly, the monocle mag is

accompanied by an expansive website, which, if you are a subscriber, expounds on many of the articles

with video content. the site also acts as a wonderful reference guide to slick hotels, restaurants, and must

sees for the global traveler. from a graphic design standpoint the magazine has a unique identity as well.

the paper stock has an impressionable, unique and fitting feel and the dimensions lend itself to handsomely

fit in an attaché as well as urban mailboxes ( i suspect dwellers of major metropolitan centers make up a big

percentage of readership). the layout of the magazine and website are organized for maximum retention of

information, while the font choices and fine line ornamentation keep it from become devoid of personality

or identity. all in all, i am quite enjoying my experience with monocle and find myself getting excited to

check my mailbox at the beginning of the month……
